Often people are unsure about what age their children should begin in the gym. Youth resistance training can be beneficial for physical and mental wellbeing and helpful for developing and sustaining healthy habits. But it is important to introduce resistance training under the guidance and supervision of a qualified strength coach.

Any other mums take their kids out for a ride but end up carrying both the child and the bike?? 🤷‍♀️

Liz, one of our Physiotherapists, is running a post-partum strength and fitness workshop. As a mum of twins, Liz recognises the physical, mental and emotional challenges that come with strength and fitness in the post-partum period; and as a physio, she recognises post partum women need expert guidance to ensure a successful return to strength and fitness.🤱

Dear Clients.
In accordance with government restrictions announced yesterday, The Injury Clinic will be closed Monday Feb 15th to Wednesday Feb 17th inclusive.
As a result of current directives and the ‘circuit breaker’ lockdown, we are unable to provide face to face consults (we appreciate the current language used regarding essential services and health care is conflicting; we have been in direct contact with DHHS and confirmed current restrictions). Any client who has a consult booked Mon, Tue or Wed of next week will be contacted on Monday to reschedule.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Thank you 😊

When lifting heavy weights, we want to aim to create intra abdominal pressure via abdominal bracing.

By contracting the muscles of the abdomen and those surrounding the spine, we create a rigid midsection - holding us in good positions when completing heavy exercises.

This helps us stay ‘tight’, eliminate uncontrolled back extension/flexion, and maintain control of the bar when completing exercises like a front squat, as shown by sponsored athlete Max!

If this sounds a little confusing, make sure to chat to Ben to ensure you are doing this safely and correctly 🏋️‍♂️

Plan to prepare or prepare to fail ✅

One of the most common barriers for change that we see is a lack of time or not being organised. Family, work and training commitments always seem to take priority over nutrition. Taking some additional time to prepare meals and plan your intake can have a big impact on energy levels, recovery, overall mood and reducing risk of injury or illness. Relying on whatever is available can mean choosing options that do not meet your goals or requirements and are usually higher in sugar, salt or fat.

Let’s make nutrition a priority and put your health and performance goals first. 🥗

Yesterday evening we had an introductory session with our 2021 Sponsored Athletes. The group got the chance to meet each other and the team here at the clinic. The night consisted of an educational talk from Sam our Dietitian, some mobility work with the Physios, testing in the gym with our S&C coach Ben, and of course a BBQ to finish off.

Pictured first are our 2021 newbies in there first year of the program, with our second and third year athletes also involved in the session.

We have a great team of athletes on board this year that we are super excited to work with and watch as they develop! 💪🏻

Our feet are our bases, and you wouldn’t build a house without good foundations. 🏠

We therefore make no exceptions when addressing our training goals and programming. We don’t want to build strong legs, if we aren’t able to express this through our feet.

If you’re a little unsure how to safely start training for springy and efficient feet/ankles, come in and chat to our Strength and Conditioning Coach! 👣

The three joints of the pelvis are inherently stable and we rely on that stability to transfer load from the legs to the trunk.

Due to pregnancy hormones, the ability of the pelvis to transfer that load can be affected. This affects some people more than others BUT there are some things that we can do to help manage and reduce the pain. 🤰

For more information, please check out this months blogs on pelvic pain and pelvic pain during pregnancy.

Whether we are running, walking or jumping, we require our muscles to coordinate and spread the load. If we have some areas doing more than others, they may become overloaded and the risk of injury increases.
Our co-contraction exercises, as shown, aim to fire all then contributing muscles when running, in run specific positions. 🏃‍♂️

Keen to find out more?? Book yourself an appointment with Ben and he can help you out with co-contraction exercises specific to you.
