Maximum Aerobic Speed (MAS) Training

WHAT IS MAS?

Maximum Aerobic Speed (MAS) refers to the lowest running speed at which VO2max (the maximum amount of oxygen an individual can effectively use during exercise) can occur.

MAS training refers to specifically programmed run training, involving running at high speeds that runners and athletes are often not exposed to and helps improve a runner or athletes MAS.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Athletes and runners (all levels and distances) looking to improve their ability to run at quicker speeds. This has been shown to transfer to your selected sport or running distance. If you’re someone who wants to improve your time for a 5km or 10km run or even a marathon or longer, this is definitely for you.

This running session will also provide a great opportunity to run with other like minded runners and athletes as a part of a great community!

WHY SHOULD I DO THIS?

  • Programmed MAS training has been shown to improve runners and athletes MAS.
  • Improving MAS provides runners and athletes with an increased base running speed to build off
  • Improved running speeds can lead to performance gains over longer distances
  • Improved running speeds can lead to performance gains in all running based sports

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

  • A free individualised run program
  • 1 x session per week that can be added to your weekly training or in place of your usual speed training.
  • The session will be based on a pre-completed time trial to ensure the program is specifically tailored to you.

MAS Run Club includes a structured warm up with running drills to help mitigate the risk of injury. The session, including warm up and cool down, will total approximately 3-4 km’s (total distance will vary person to person) and will be completed within a 1 hour time frame.

WHEN DOES THIS START?

The Injury Clinic MAS running sessions will return in June 2025.

COMMENCMENT DATE: Friday the 13th of June

TIME: To be confirmed – keep an eye on our social media to have your say!

LOCATION: Landy Field

COST: Free

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

To register your interest or sign up please fill out the information below. Once registering your interest you will receive an email with a link to a questionnaire. As a part of this questionnaire you will have to have completed a 1.2km time trial at 100% effort.

  • This time trial is used to individually program your session so it is highly recommended a time trial is completed rather than providing an estimated time.
  • This will ensure the program is designed based on your current fitness and capabilities and mitigate the risk of injury.

The questionnaire including time trial results and accompanying information must be submitted by Friday the 30th of May to allow time to specifically program your session.

If you have any specific questions regarding these MAS sessions please contact the clinic via phone (03) 5229 3911 or email info@theinjuryclinic.com.au
