POSTPARTUM STRENGTH AND FITNESS

TIC MOTHERS GROUP

The Injury Clinic we know that being a mum presents some very real challenges when it comes to exercise. Not only are there significant physical changes that have happened to your body, but you also have to try and find the time to exercise! As every woman, pregnancy and birth is different, we can expect each woman to have a different post partum experience too.

With this in mind, we have decided to facilitate a Mums and Bubs gym session each Tuesday and Thursday. Since having her twins, Liz recognises the physical, mental and emotional challenges that come with strength and fitness in the post partum period; and as a Physio, she recognises post partum women need expert guidance to ensure a successful return to strength and fitness. We also know that it is hard to schedule time to get into the gym, so have opened up these sessions for Mums to bring their babies along too.

We aim to provide:

  • A safe, socially distant environment.
  • A place for open discussion about:
  • Return to exercise,
  • Pelvic floor concerns,
  • Abdominal separation,
  • And anything else (physio-related) you have questions about.
  • Plenty of room to bring yourself, your baby and anything else you may need.
  • No expectations, we know you are tired and have a lot on!
  • We will start with some exercises that are targeted and individualised for the stage of pregnancy or postpartum that you are at.

FAQ’s

How many people will be at the session?

We will keep group numbers to a maximum of 10 (excluding children, who are more than welcome). This both enables an intimate environment to allow for specific questions and also ensures the session is easily adaptable to suit the group.

Can I bring my baby/children?

Yes, of course children are welcome to come! It will be an informal session so there is no need to worry if your child cries, needs to be fed and we are always happy to lend a hand if needed! We do ask that we keep these sessions for children under 18months of age, but let us know if your child is older and we can try to accommodate your needs too.

Do I need to book?

Yes, you can call the clinic (5229 3911) to book into one of these sessions. It may be suggested that you come to a time where one of our Physios are present to help set you up with a program.

Do I need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19?

Yes, to keep in line with the current regulations, everyone using the gym space needs to be fully vaccinated unless they have an exemption. We will ask for your vaccination status the first time you come in.

Where will it be held?

We will hold the session in the gym at The Injury Clinic. This means there will be plenty of space for everyone and everything else that comes with having a baby!

Can I book out a session for my friends and I?

Of course! We are always happy to adapt sessions and make it whatever would suit you.

Does it matter what sort of birth I had?

Definitely not! While it may affect the exercises you complete early in your post partum journey, this session will largely be an educated session to ensure we are all on the same page.
