JULY FACT:
Underfuelled vs fuelled
This is a common theme dietitian Sam sees with both elite and recreational athletes. The idea of following a ‘healthy’ diet is often seen as a low energy and low carbohydrate diet. Generally coupled with a high training load and a goal to change body composition. This can lead to reduced immunity, fatigue, increased risk of injury, poor performance and much more.
How to ensure you’re adequately fuelled:
It is still possible to provide your body with adequate energy for general health, training and performance whilst still achieving body composition goals. Generally, by increasing overall energy intake and the quality of meals and snacks, people feel more satisfied. This can reduce snacking on high sugar, convenience based foods.
